FREEHOLD – An Asbury Park woman pleaded guilty Friday afternoon to the 2016 killing of her 23-year-old neighbor, announced Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.
Jennie Cullum, 30, of Asbury Park, pleaded guilty to a charge of first degree Aggravated Manslaughter before Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Vincent N. Falcetano.
Cullum faces up to 20 years in a New Jersey state prison when she returns for sentencing on June 14, 2019. She will also be subject to the provisions of the “No Early Release Act” (NERA) requiring her to serve 85 percent of her sentence before being eligible for parole, with a mandatory five-year period of parole supervision upon her subsequent release. The plea agreement was reached after consultation with the victim’s family.
A joint investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and Asbury Park Police Department revealed that on December 10, 2016, following an argument at the apartment complex in which they both resided, Cullum stabbed Iquan Tyler. While transporting the victim to the hospital, Tyler’s family alerted an Asbury Park police officer. Tyler was unresponsive and covered in blood. He was rushed to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune Township where he died as a result of a single stab wound to his left shoulder. After interviewing numerous witnesses, Cullum was arrested and charged the next day.
Cullum continues to be held in lieu of bail at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, where she has been lodged since her arrest.
