SARANAC LAKE, NY — On Tuesday, New York State Police arrested Rylan Christy, 19, of Saranac Lake, after he made a threat of violence on social media.

Christy posted a photo of himself holding a firearm on Snapchat with a caption that he was going to shoot at rioters at a scheduled protest in Saranac Lake, police say.

State Police spokesperson Jennifer Fleishman said Christy’s post “was targeted toward violent rioters and looters, not the peaceful protesters at the demonstration in Saranac Lake.”

“This was an isolated incident. There is no threat of harm to the public.”

He was charged with Falsely Reporting a Crime, Catastrophe, or Emergency 3rd degree, a class A misdemeanor.

State Police were assisted by the Saranac Lake Police Department.
