“We recovered a loaded handgun and stopped a potential shooting in front of a school,” said Police Officer Brian McGovern of the 42 Precinct Anti-crime Team.

“Working quickly together as team, we were able to defuse a potentially deadly situation.”

On Monday April 9, members of the 42 Precinct’s Anti-crime Team were on patrol near Home Street and Reverend James Polite Avenue in the Bronx when they noticed two large groups of people in front of a local high school. The police officers observed a male step into the street and reach into his waistband while facing toward the opposing group. They attempted to call the man over to their car but he ran off into the schoolyard.

“We knew that there was only one way out of that schoolyard so we circled around to the other side and we waited for him to climb over the fence,” said Police Officer McGovern.

The police officers used their knowledge of the neighborhood and sound tactics to stop the man. They were able to place him under arrest and recovered from him a loaded .25 cal handgun.
