“It bothered me that someone was taking advantage of a visually impaired older lady. I felt I needed to follow up on this,” said Police Officer Murphy.

NEW YORK — (NYPD News) — Two police officers went the extra mile to help a visually impaired senior on the Upper East Side of Manhattan last month. Police Officers Murphy and Paley of the 19 Precinct responded to a residential building at 505 East 79 Street shortly after 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26. An 81-year-old woman told the police officers that a man working as an exterminator had entered her bedroom and removed 200 dollars from her purse. The woman became suspicious when the 47-year-old suspect remained in her bedroom for a long time. After exiting her bedroom, he quickly left her apartment.

She immediately checked the purse that she had left in that room and noticed the money missing from the purse. Police Officer Murphy contacted the exterminating company and found out the suspect’s schedule for the next day; then arrested him along his route. The man was charged with Petit Larceny.
