NYPD Transit Police Officer Daniel Newman used his department issued Naloxone to save a man who had overdosed on narcotics early Friday morning in Coney Island.

A recent graduate of the police academy, Officer Newman was patrolling when he responded to the report of an unconscious man at the Stillwell Avenue station.

He immediately recognized the man’s symptoms from the training he received in the academy and his experience as an EMT in his prior job.

Officer Newman removed the Naloxone spray from his duty belt and administered it to the unresponsive man.

He almost immediately gained consciousness and was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

“The man didn’t want to admit to me that he used contraband,” Officer Newman said. “But it’s part of my job to save lives.”
