Ohio State University’s Department of Public safety has sent a mass email to students and staff early on Tuesday morning which warned of an anonymous threat of violence on campus had been posted online.

The exact nature of the potential danger was not specified other than that it referred to an ‘anonymous threat of violence to an Ohio State campus for Tuesday’ that was posted online.

The mass email said: ”It is out of an abundance of caution that we share this information and remind everyone to be observant and aware.’

University police began working with other law enforcement agencies to ‘investigate the threat and take all appropriate measures to keep the campus safe’ after the threat was received.

Students and staff were asked to ‘see something, say something’ and report any suspicious action on the university’s main campus in Columbus to police.

In an update that was posted at 1.40am, the university reported the campus was open and operating as if everything was normal.

There are about 60,000 students enrolled in school at the campus in Columbus.

The school’s campuses and research centers in Wooster, Mansfield, Newark, Lima and Marion are also open and operating normally.

OSU just conducted a ‘disaster exercise’ last week that involved several emergency vehicles, volunteer ‘victims’ and multiple mannequins.
