Bremerton, Washington — Around 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Halloween, Bremerton Police Officers responded to the report of an explosion in an alleyway in the 800 block of 6
th Street.
Police say part of the explosive device struck an unoccupied parked vehicle, causing a fist sized dent on it, and other parts of the explosive device traveled over 100 feet, landing on a sidewalk near the Kitsap Rescue Mission. A small 2 inch by 2 inch chip in an exterior building wall was caused by the explosive. No people were injured as a result of the explosion.
“It was very powerful,” Matthew Miller, who stays at the shelter told KOMO. “Most people felt it in the chest. You could feel the shake from the explosion in the chest.”
The Washington State Patrol’s bomb squad, along with Special Agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation are en route to assist with the investigation.
Investigators from the scene have been provided a suspect description of; a white male, wearing a green jacket, and dark colored ball cap with a possible tattoo under one of his eyes (unknown design). No age range, height or weight was provided to officers.
“I wouldn’t read anything into it,” Bremerton Mayor Greg Wheeler said. “I think it was just a random act of stupidity.”
The evidence being taken from the scene related to the explosive leads investigators to believe it to be consistent with a low explosive powder, but this will have to be determined by a laboratory
