NASHVILLE – A self-defense claim is under investigation in regard to Thursday night’s fatal shooting of Juan Marchman, 16, in a parking lot of Creekwood Apartments on Highway 70 South in Bellevue.

As of now, detectives believe that Marchman, who was visiting from Blythville, Arkansas, had come to the parking lot with others in a black Dodge Charger to allegedly make a marijuana buy. The 21-year-old admitted marijuana seller, who arrived in the parking lot at 11:30 p.m. in a white Mustang, said that Marchman approached him, put a pistol to his shoulder, and tried to rob him of the Mustang. The 21-year-old said that as he attempted to retrieve his own gun, Marchman shot him in the shoulder. As Marchman ran away, the 21-year-old heard more shots and believed Marchman was firing at him. The 21-year-old returned fire, fatally wounding Marchman.

The 21-year-old is in stable condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
