IRVING, Texas — A murder suspect is dead after a Los Angeles mother was gunned down as the couple’s 3-year-old daughter was in a car nearby last Thursday.
On Thursday, at 9:35 a.m., officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Mission Division responded to the 9000 block of Bartee Avenue.
Once at the location, the officers located 35-year-old Karen Ruiz, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department also responded to the scene and pronounced Ruiz dead. The horrific crime was captured on surveillance video.
Investigators quickly learned that the victim’s former boyfriend was responsible for her death.
The suspect, Herbert Nixon Flores, an MS-13 gang member, fatally shot himself as cops closed in on his location in Irving, Texas Saturday.
The Fugitive Task Force and @LAPDHQ developed information overnight and worked with police in Texas to locate Nixon Flores. Police @IrvingPD located and pursued the suspect in a vehicle heading to Dallas. Nixon Flores exited his vehicle, fled on foot and ultimately took his life.
