Elkton, Maryland — On Sunday around 3:30 PM, Cecil County Sheriff’s Office deputies, MSP Troopers from JFK and North East, and Town of Rising Sun police officers responded to a residence in the 1100 block of Ridge Road Rising Sun, Md for a shooting incident. Upon arrival, Deputies located a 7 year old child dead inside the home. The child had obvious trauma that appeared to be consistent with gunshot wounds. Deputies also discovered a 33 year old male inside the home suffering from a gunshot wound. The 33 year old male was transported by helicopter to Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. The 33 year old male was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the Shock Trauma.
Detectives from the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office are handling the investigation. CCSO Detectives are being assisted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore. The investigation revealed that the 33 year old male was the father of the dead 7 year old child. The preliminary investigation revealed that there was a disturbance inside the home prior to the shots being fired. Detectives were able to make contact with witnesses who were inside the home when the incident occurred. The investigation is ongoing and is being handled by Detectives as an apparent murder/suicide.
