Teen Mom Charged With Murder After Newborn Found In Drain Pipe

ABILENE, TX – At 8:33 a.m. on Monday, January 18, 2016, employees of Hendrick Hospital called the Abilene Police Department due to suspicious circumstances. An 18 year old female had arrived at the hospital for treatment for severe bleeding. Upon examination, medical personnel determined the bleeding was due to her giving birth to a full-term baby within the last few hours. The female was not accompanied by the infant. Medical personnel called police for assistance.

Detectives responded to the 400 Block of S. 25th Street from information gathered through the investigation. Detectives were able to locate tissue remains inside the sewer of the residence and later located the body of the infant hidden inside the residence. There was visible trauma to the body of the infant.

The Abilene Police Department arrested 22 year old Damian Scott Cate and charged him with First Degree Felony Murder and Second Degree Felony Tampering/ Fabricating with Physical Evidence with Intent to Impair Human Corpse for his connection to the homicide.

Additionally, Police have arrested and charged Amber Craker, age 18, in connection with the infant homicide case that occurred on January 18, 2016. Craker is the birth mother of the deceased female infant. Craker was arrested at 4:15pm shortly after her release from Hendrick Medical Center on January 19th. She has been formally charged with Murder, a first degree felony, and Tampering with Evidence, a second degree felony. Her bond has been set at $300,000.

Abilene Police Investigators are still awaiting preliminary autopsy results from the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
