Police Officer Charged After Firing Gun at Middle School In Virginia

On Monday, Carl Savoy, 27, a five year veteran of the Alexandria Police Department, was indicted by a Grand Jury related to the March 13, 2018, incident where he fired his service weapon inside George Washington Middle School. No one was injured in the incident.

Savoy was charged with two misdemeanors, Reckless Handling of a Firearm and Destruction of Property. He turned himself into law enforcement this afternoon and has been released on his own recognizance. Savoy is currently on administrative leave without pay from the Alexandria Police Department as a result of the charges.

 

On March 13, at 9:10 a.m., a Savoy accidentally discharged his service weapon inside his office at the middle school. He immediately checked for potential injuries in the area. No one was injured. The officer then contacted his supervisor and school staff. All students and staff are safe and classes continued as normal.
