LEWISTON, N.Y. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations officers arrested a previously deported man who was encountered at Lewiston Bridge after turning around to the U.S. before entering Canada.
Jose Guerrero Garcia, a 28-year old male citizen of Mexico, was charged with re-entry after removal from the U.S. Mr. Garcia was encountered at the Lewiston Bridge after turning around to the U.S. before reaching Canada on November 23. On secondary inspection, CBP officers discovered that Garcia had previously been removed from the U.S. in 2011.
CBP Office of Field Operations presented the case to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for prosecution. Garcia appeared before a federal magistrate on November 29, and was charged with re-entry of a removed alien and was remanded into the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
“This was an outstanding job by our front line officers,” said Acting Port Director Cary Frieling. “Identifying individuals who were previously deported is part of the important job our officers do to secure our borders and protect our community.”
