Baltimore — After being convicted of second degree murder and use of a handgun in the commission of a crime of violence by a Baltimore City jury, Public Enemy #1 Charles Henson was sentenced to 45 years in prison for his crimes.

On January 28, 2015 at approximately 1:10 p.m., Baltimore Police officers responded to the 2300 block of Walbrook Avenue for a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers found Davon Johnson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Through investigation, a witness to the shooting identified Henson as the shooter via a photo array. According to an eyewitness account, Henson shot Johnson multiple times—standing over him and continuing to shoot even after Johnson had fallen to the ground.

Additionally, Henson admitted to shooting Johnson to others, who also identified him as the shooter.

Johnson was fatally shot in the presence of his mother, who pled for Henson to stop shooting her son. According to one of the witnesses to whom Henson confessed, when recalling the shooting, Henson stated that Johnson called out to his mother who was watching and Henson said to him, “You call for your mother? Bitch!” and continued shooting him.

“This should serve as a reminder to those who believe they can pick up a gun and take the life of another in front of his mother without repercussions that they should think again,” said State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby. “I want the law-abiding citizens of Baltimore City, who are tired of seeing the crime scenes and hearing about the senseless violence on the news each night, to know that my prosecutors seek severe punishments for these monstrous acts of violence and blatant disregard for the law.”

Henson is one of at least eight defendants designated as Public Enemy Number One by the Baltimore Police Department that has been convicted since 2014.
