RAW: Video Shows Man Fatally Shoot Himself With ‘Ghost Gun’ During Foot Chase With LAPD

LOS ANGELES – On May 1, 2021, Hollywood uniform personnel were in pursuit of a stolen vehicle (Black Audi SUV); determined to be a stolen rental car. During the pursuit, the suspect collided with two vehicles and stopped on Hobart Avenue north of Sunset Boulevard. The suspect fled on foot northbound Hobart Avenue, jumping over a fence and running eastbound to the rear of the complex at the 1550 block of Hobart Avenue. Four additional uniform officers responded to the back-up request made by the primary and secondary pursuit units. The four officers went in foot pursuit of the suspect and pursued him to the rear of 1554 Hobart Avenue. As the suspect jumped an additional fence, he dropped a blue steel semi auto handgun. The suspect picked up the handgun, but then stumbled to the ground. As the suspect was on the ground, an officer deployed his TASER, appearing to have no effect on the suspect.

The suspect fired one round while facing away from the officers. Approximately 15 seconds later, the suspect fired a second round, sustaining a gunshot wound to the head. Los Angeles Fire Department personnel arrived and determined the suspect dead at scene.

No officers were injured during the incident.

A 9mm Polymer 80 Ghost gun was recovered at scene.

Force Investigation Division (FID) investigators responded to the scene and are investigating the incident.
