NYPD cops in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn arrested two men who were using fake police identification to steal money from victims last week.

Police Officers Antonio Zorrilla and Ronald Liautaud of the 79 Precinct were on patrol in their sector near Halsey Street and Nostrand Avenue Friday afternoon when they observed a black Ford truck double-parked with its emergency lights flashing.

The two officers stopped to help and investigate what was happening when one of the two men identified himself as a detective and told the uniformed officers that he did not need to show his badge.

“They quickly realized something wasn’t right,” said Captain Charles Minch, commanding officer of the 79 Precinct.

Further investigation led Officers Liautaud and Zorrilla to find the two men possessed several fake police identification cards along with binoculars, a police radio, and a PA system inside the SUV.

After speaking with the owner of the car that was being searched by the men, Officers Liautaud and Zorrilla found out he had just left a check cashing store.

The two impersonators were arrested and the investigation is ongoing by detectives in the 79 Precinct and the NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau.
