FITZGERALD, GEORGIA — A man who recently won a half-million dollars playing the Georgia lottery was found dead after an apparent home invasion late Wednesday, according to local reports.

20-year-old Craigory Burch Jr., a forklift operator, suffered multiple gunshot wounds, officials said. The victim had won a $434,272 Fantasy 5 jackpot in November 2015, WALB reported.

Burch’s girlfriend was in the home at the time of the shooting and ran for help, the GBI said. Investigators didn’t say if any property was stolen.

The victim had used some of his winnings to buy Christmas gifts for people in need.
