GREENWOOD, S.C. – A man has been charged more than a month after his 1-year-old daughter died.

On April 28th, Greenwood Police responded to the Emergency Room at Self Regional Healthcare due to the suspicious death of an 18 month old girl.

The father of the child had apparently been sleeping with the child on the bed next to him. When he woke up, the child was not breathing or conscious. The medical staff at the hospital attempted to revive the young child but were unable to save her.

While investigating this incident, detectives found approximately 50 “blue pills” on a nightstand in the bedroom where the father had been sleeping with the child which tested positive for Fentanyl.

The investigation revealed that the cause of death was a lethal dose of fentanyl in the child’s system.

Zy’twan Childs, 21, of Greenwood, has been arrested and charged with ‘Homicide by Child Abuse’ and ‘Possession of A Schedule II Controlled Substance.’
