SEATTLE — Today, an SPD officer was charged with first-degree theft after his chain of command discovered discrepancies in his time records. According to the AP, the veteran officer is accused of skipping 55 days of work over the past year while still collecting pay and benefits.

Pursuant to department and city policies, this matter was referred to the Office of Police Accountability (OPA) for investigation.

At that time the officer was placed on administrative assignment to home.

As a result of this investigation, OPA made a criminal referral and today the King County Prosecutor’s Office made the decision to file charges.

The officer now is on unpaid leave, pending the outcome of the case.
