LOS ANGELES – Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Bureau Homicide have announced the arrest of a murder suspect.

On December 28, 2022, around 12:30 a.m., Los Angeles Police Department Newton Area uniformed patrol officers responded to a radio call of a shooting with a victim down near the 300 block of West Adams Boulevard, on the west side of an apartment complex, south of 23rd Street, east of Flower Street.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that the victim, a security guard of the apartment complex, was shot while attempting to escort a trespasser off the property grounds. The victim died as a result of the shooting. While the crime scene investigation was being conducted by detectives from Central Bureau Homicide, officers were alerted to a possible suspect, sleeping in a parking area near the lobby area of the building. Newton Area officers responded and detained the possible suspect, who was found asleep in the area. While contacting the individual, officers observed the person to have a handgun in his possession, which was recovered without incident.

Detectives were able to review video and determined that the person detained was the suspect in this incident. The suspect, later identified as Alexader Crawford, 31, was taken into custody and booked for murder. [There is no known motive.]

Los Angeles Police Department Central Bureau Homicide detectives determined that Crawford was in possession of a handgun matching the handgun caliber used in the murder, was wearing clothing closely resembling the suspect’s clothing at the time of the incident and matched the suspect description in race, sex, and physical description. Detectives from Central Bureau Homicide will continue their investigation and present their case to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.
