Sex Offender Jumped School Fence and Entered Girls’ Restroom in Attempt to Sexually Assault Student: Cops

RIVERSIDE, CA – On Friday afternoon, August 19, 2022, the Riverside Police Department located and arrested 32-year-old Logan Nighswonger of Riverside for entering a girls’ restroom at McAuliffe Elementary School in Riverside and attempting to sexually assault a student. He was later booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for attempted sex acts with a child under the age of 10 and being a registered sex offender on school grounds. He is being held without bail at this time.

At approximately 12:30 p.m., the City of Riverside’s Public Safety Communications Center received a call from the school, located in the 4100 block of Golden Avenue, that a man had jumped the school fence and entered the girls’ restroom. A campus supervisor observed this man, later identified as Logan Nighswonger, come out of the restroom and heard a girl crying inside. The campus supervisor followed Logan Nighswonger as he jumped other fences to the parking lot and get inside a vehicle. He was then able to provide a detailed vehicle description and license plate as the suspect drove away.

Riverside Police School Resource Officers assigned to the Alvord Unified School District immediately responded to begin investigating. They were assisted by detectives with the Sexual Assault – Child Abuse (SACA) Unit and specialists from the Forensics Unit.

Information was developed into the suspect’s whereabouts and the METRO Team responded to a business in the city of Placentia where the vehicle he used was registered. Logan Nighswonger was located and safely detained, then transported back to Riverside and later booked into jail.
