INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Police Chief Randal Taylor has fired IMPD Sergeant Eric Huxley following an internal IMPD investigation.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office has filed charges against Huxley to include:

– Official Misconduct (Level 6 Felony)

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on September 24, 2021. Sergeant Huxley was assisting another IMPD officer with an arrest on Monument Circle. The call came in as a reported disorderly conduct. According to the probable cause affidavit, Sgt. Christopher Kibbey heard Vaughn being “loud and disorderly,” and asked him to calm down. When he refused, Officer Matthew Shores began to arrest him.

“Today’s body-worn camera recording depicting the actions of an IMPD Sergeant will likely shock and anger you, like it did to me. To the citizen involved in this incident, my thoughts and prayers go out to you. That interaction does not represent IMPD and the work our officers do each day to keep our community safe,” said IMPD Chief Randal Taylor.

Sergeant Huxley is suspended without pay pending a recommendation of termination to the IMPD Civilian Police Merit Board. Any questions regarding the prosecution of this incident can be directed to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.

IMPD has also advised and consulted with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the US Attorney’s Office regarding this case.
