Suspect arrested after 4 people shot inside downtown Indianapolis parking garage

INDIANAPOLIS – Detectives have arrested 25-year-old Christopher Ruffin of Indianapolis on preliminary charges after he is alleged to have shot and injured four people inside a parking garage downtown.

On Saturday just after 3:00 a.m., officers working off-duty employment in the area of the 300 block of South Meridian Street heard several gunshots coming from Union Station parking garage. Officers quickly arrived at the second floor of the parking structure to find three victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Detectives were able to determine a fourth victim had arrived at the Community East Hospital a short time later was also connected the shooting.

All four victim’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A good suspect description was obtained and responding officers quickly located and detained a suspected shooter. Officers also found a handgun inside a trash can on the 2nd floor.

After being questioned by detectives, the suspected shooter was transported to the Arrestee Processing Center and processed on preliminary charges of aggravated battery, carrying a handgun without a license and invasion of privacy violations.

A motive was not known but police say they believe a confrontation, of some sort, led up to the shooting.
