NORTH BRADDOCK, PA — A teenager has been charged with homicide for the killing of a father during a burglary last month.

On November 7, 2020, North Braddock Police and Allegheny County Police Homicide Detectives responded to the 1500 block of Beech Street in North Braddock for a 52-year-old man who was shot and killed outside of his home.

The victim, Theodore Jones, interrupted a burglary at his home when he was killed in front of his six-year-old son.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives determined that 18-year-old Duwan Carey of Port Vue was one of the individuals responsible for the homicide. Detectives are working to identify the other individuals involved.

Jones’ best friend, Jim Reddy Jr. told WPXI “He was one of the most loyal people.”

“He was always doing fundraisers, always donating his time, his money, his energy, his skilled labor,” Reddy said. “He was a huge Steelers fan. We’ve gone to over 100 games together in Pittsburgh and on the road.”

“Huge hole, huge hole in my life as a friend. I’m going to be lost for a while,” Reddy said. “He would be at my house for Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Years. It’s just a very, very big void. A very big loss.”

Carey was apprehended this morning with the assistance of the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office. He is being lodged in the Allegheny County Jail awaiting arraignment. He is charged with criminal homicide, criminal conspiracy and burglary.
