Panama City Beach, FLORIDA — The U.S. Marshal’s Service and local law enforcement discovered Hayes and Phillips asleep in a 2001 Toyota Tundra that was stolen in Henry County, Georgia.

The vehicle was surrounded by law enforcement, and both were taken into custody. Authorities plan to extradite them back to Kentucky where they are expected to face felony charges.

EARLIER REPORT: Thirteen-year-old Cheyenne Phillips and 18-year-old Dalton Hayes left home in Kentucky on January 4 and have evaded the law ever since.

Last seen at Hays home in Grayson County, the couple made news when they allegedly stole a truck on January 12 and drove the vehicle through a cattle farm before abandoning the damaged vehicle in a wooded area, WHAS reported.

They were spotted the next day on surveillance footage in a Walmart in Manning, South Carolina. Footage shows that the two were driving another stolen pickup truck.

While in Walmart, the pair used a stolen check that was made out for $20 over the items they were buying. The cashier gave them the difference back in cash, according to police.

They then repeated the ploy, taking another $40 in cash.

The second truck was found on Wednesday. A third was stolen within walking distance from the second.

A firearm, reported to be kept in the vehicle by the original owner, was no longer inside after the vehicle was recovered.

Tammy Marton, mother of Dalton Hayes, said she is worried about what her son might do.

“He’s never went this long without contacting me, and it’s really very stressful,’ she said. ‘I’m just worried that they’re not safe anymore.”
