The Metro Nashville Police Department is investigating Sunday night’s death of a Texas woman who lost control of an electric scooter on 3rd Avenue South at Symphony Place and collided with the rear tires of a moving semi-truck — which had no trailer attached.

The victim, Melinda Lovelady, 54, of Tyler, Texas, was riding a Lime scooter northbound on 3rd Avenue South in single-file fashion with three other scooter riders at 7:30 p.m. when she began to swerve in the roadway, crossed into the southbound lane of 3rd Avenue South and collided with the truck. Lovelady died at the scene. No one else was hurt.

There were no indications of alcohol involvement at the scene. Toxicology testing will be conducted by the Medical Examiner’s Office.

The scooter was impounded and will be examined as part of the continuing investigation.
