U.S. Marshals Arrest Dozens During ‘Operation Washout’ In New Orleans

New Orleans, LA – This past Friday, the United States Marshals Service concluded Operation Washout New Orleans.  The operation targeted some of the area’s most dangerous and violent fugitives.  Beginning on October 31, Operation Washout New Orleans was a 12-day operation that resulted in 44 arrests, including 13 arrests for homicide charges, 8 arrests for aggravated assault/battery, 6 arrests for armed robbery and 7 arrests for sex offenses.  Additionally, officers seized 19 firearms, $13,000 in U.S. Currency, and approximately 464 grams of narcotics.

Notable Fugitive Arrests:

  • Bryson Bowman was arrested in New Orleans on November 10, 2022.  He was wanted for by New Orleans Police Department for Aggravated Battery (gun), Aggravated Assault (shooting), Felon with a Firearm, and Illegal Use of a Weapon.  During his arrest, officers seized 438 grams of crack cocaine.
  • Gary Morgan was arrested in New Orleans on November 2, 2022.  He was wanted for Murder and attempted murder by New Orleans Police Department.
  • Keith Goffner was arrested in Harahan on November 5, 2022. He was wanted for attempted murder by Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
  • Jonah Garrett, arrested in Covington on November 7, 2022.  He was arrested for weapon charges by Covington Police Department.  During the arrest, officers seized three handguns, two rifles, and 26 grams of THC.
  • Darrick Thomas was arrested in New Orleans on November 2, 2022.  He was wanted by the Kenner Police Department for Armed Robbery with Gun, Convicted Felon with a Firearm, and Aggravated Burglary.  During his arrest, officers recovered three guns.
  • Janathan Peters was arrested in New Orleans on October 31, 2022.  He was wanted for murder by the New Orleans Police Department.  During his arrest, officers seized three handguns.

The United States Marshals Service was joined in its efforts by multiple Federal, State, and Local law enforcement agencies.  U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Louisiana, Enix Smith III, accredits the success of the operation to the long-standing collaborative partnerships between federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.  “The cooperation we received from our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners was irrefutably critical to the success of Operation Washout.  The United States Marshals Service New Orleans Task Force will remain committed to working with our law enforcement partners to bring dangerous fugitives to justice” Smith said. The USMS provided additional funding to local and state law enforcement agencies to be able to work extra hours during the operation.

The U.S Marshals Service was the first federal law enforcement agency in the United States and serves as the federal government’s primary agency for fugitive investigations.
