UFC Fighter Ryan Jimmo Killed In Edmonton, Alberta; Hit-and-Run Driver Sought

UFC fighter Ryan Jimmo was killed after being struck by a vehicle in Edmonton, Alberta on Sunday.

News release: The Edmonton Police Service Homicide Section is asking for the public’s help locating a vehicle involved in a hit and run collision that left a man dead early this morning.

Police responded to a parking lot in the area of Whyte Avenue and 101 Street at approximately 2:15 a.m. on Sunday, June 26, 2016.

It is reported there was a brief verbal altercation between the drivers of two separate vehicles. The driver of one vehicle, a 34-year-old man, approached the occupants of the second vehicle on foot. As he was walking back to his vehicle, it is alleged the suspect vehicle accelerated, struck the man and fled the area.

The man who was struck was treated and transported to hospital where he was declared deceased.

The suspect vehicle was last seen travelling eastbound on Whyte Avenue near 99 Street. Police believe the vehicle was occupied by at least two Caucasian males.

Officers from Homicide Section are asking the public to contact the EPS with information about this vehicle. It is described as a dark-coloured, older model pickup truck with an extended cab, and customized with a lift kit, oversized tires and clear tail lights.

Investigators are also looking to speak with the driver of a red car that was nearly struck by the suspect vehicle as the pickup truck travelled eastbound in the westbound lanes of Whyte Avenue shortly after the collision.

Jimmo was a Canadian mixed martial artist who competed in the light heavyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He mostly fought in Canada, as well as competing in the eighth season of The Ultimate Fighter. He was the former MFC Light Heavyweight Champion.
