1 Dead, 2 Officers Shot In Holladay, Utah

HOLLADAY, Utah — **UPDATE: Sheriff Winder says Officer Doug Barney of UPD was shot in the head during the exchange of gunfire in Holladay. He has died from his injuries.

The suspect killed was wanted both locally and federally, was being sought by Metro Gang Task force as recently as Saturday night, police say. Officer John Richie was struck three times and is recovering at the hospital**

Two Officers with the Unified Police Department of Greater Salt Lake were shot during an exchange of gunfire Sunday. One suspect is dead as police search for a second female suspect.

The shooting started after a car accident in Holladay. When police arrived, two suspects fled from a Black BMW 3-series sedan. Police gave chase and a gunfight ensued.

Desert News reported: “One neighbor said they heard a gunshot and looked out the window and saw an officer lying in a driveway. Shortly afterward there was a hail of gunfire.”

Police helicopters and K9s were brought in for the search. Residents in the area were told to shelter in place.

The wounded Officers are in critical but stable condition. The scene is at 4500 South, east of Highland Drive.
