Vice President Kamala Harris had to be evacuated from the Democratic National Committee headquarters on Jan. 6 after a pipe bomb was discovered outside the building, multiple news outlets reported on Thursday.
The revelation about the day of the riot had not previously been disclosed. Politico broke the news.
“She was there until she was evacuated,” an anonymous White House official told NBC News.
A second source told NBC, “She left [the US Capitol] to the DNC with plans to come back when proceedings started. Then shit hit the fan. She called repeatedly to make sure staff was okay.”
One year later, no arrests have been made in the placing of the pipe bombs. The FBI continues to ask for the public’s help in identifying the suspect.
