ROANOKE, Va. – A man has been arrested and he reportedly confessed to police that he killed a woman he lived with and dumper her body in a river.

Around 2:30 a.m. Monday morning, Roanoke Police say they were called to “suspicious circumstances” at an apartment in the 3400 block of Bennett Drive NW. Arriving officers found an apartment in “disarray with signs of a struggle,” but did not locate anyone in the apartment, a press release said.

As detectives were investigating the scene and attempting to locate the residents of the apartment, the vehicle of one of the residents was located at a parking lot near 13th Street SE. Detectives found a man inside the vehicle — identified as DeAngelo Bonds, 22 of Roanoke. Bonds told police he shot and killed a woman who lived in the apartment. Her identity was not released.

Bonds confessed to officers that he disposed of the woman’s body. After a search, her body was located in the Roanoke River.

Police didn’t elaborate on the relationship between the suspect and the victim.

Bonds was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. No further information was available.
