LOS ANGELES — A 25-year-old woman admitted to shooting her boyfriend to death in the parking lot of a Canoga Park bar last year, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Reyanna Villarreal, 24, of Newhall pleaded no contest to one count of involuntary manslaughter and admitted an allegation of using a firearm.

Deputy District Attorney Julie Kramer, who prosecuted the case, said Villarreal is expected to be sentenced to five years in state prison.

Villarreal allegedly shot her boyfriend, 20-year-old Jose Mendoza, on March 5 in a parking lot near a bar in the 22000 block of Roscoe Boulevard. The victim was taken to a local hospital where he died.

Friends of the couple testified that they hadn’t heard any arguments between the defendant and the victim that evening.
