LOS ANGELES — A 41-year-old mother was charged today for allegedly abandoning her newborn baby in a parking lot.
Dolores Adriana Cruz, a transient, faces one felony count of child abuse.
On Dec. 22, a good Samaritan heard a baby crying near the 11600 block of Washington Boulevard in Whittier and discovered the victim naked on the pavement, prosecutors said. Police were called and they allegedly located the mother nearby, prosecutors added.
Cruz faces a possible maximum sentence of six years in state prison if convicted as charged. Bail is requested at $100,000.
The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
