UPLAND, Pa. — Shian Skylar Mengini, 18, of the 400 block of Juniper Lane in Upland, is charged with making a false report, claiming she was sexually assaulted by another woman. The Upland Police Department and Detective Michael Palmer and Sergeant Kenneth Bellis of the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office Criminal Investigation Division (CID) launched an immediate investigation following the report of an alleged sexual assault that had occurred inside the home located on the 400 block of Juniper Lane in Upland on April 20, 2019.

On April 20, 2019, Shian Skylar Mengini arrived on foot at the Upland Police Department, claiming she was sexually assaulted while within her residence. Mengini was transported to Crozer Chester Medical Center. CID detectives responded to the hospital and met with Shian Mengini who told detectives that a woman she met online came over to her Mengini’s home and began kissing her. Mengini claimed that she locked herself in a bathroom and told the woman she was married. Mengini said when she unlocked the bathroom door, the woman entered the bathroom, and undressed Mengini, touching her in a sexual way, thereafter following her into the bedroom. Following these events, Mengini said ran out of the house to the police department to report the sexual assault.

On April 25, 2019, Shian Mengini’s husband made contact with law enforcement and thereafter met with CID detectives. He advised detectives that his wife, Shian Mengini had received threatening messages from the other woman’s husband. CID detectives interviewed Shian Mengeni who ultimately admitted that she had sent the threatening messages to herself using spoofed numbers. During the interview with detectives, Mengini admitted that the sexual encounter she had with the other woman was consensual, and she had falsely claimed she had been sexually assaulted because she was mad at her husband and had nothing to occupy her time as she did not have friends in the area. Shian Mengini was arraigned on May 8, 2019 and the preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 16, 2019 before Magisterial District Judge Thomas J. Lacey.

“In Delaware County, we take any report of assault seriously. The fact that Shian Mengini fabricated this serious allegation because she was angry with her husband and bored is both criminal and inexcusable,” said District Attorney Katayoun M. Copeland. “I would like to commend the Upland Police Department and CID Detective Palmer and Sergeant Bellis for launching a full investigation to determine the truth in this matter.”
