{"id":116050,"date":"2018-01-21T21:21:02","date_gmt":"2018-01-22T02:21:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/breaking911.com\/?p=116050"},"modified":"2018-01-22T16:46:33","modified_gmt":"2018-01-22T21:46:33","slug":"breaking-tonight-ied-detonated-florida-shopping-mall-devices-found-manhunt-underway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/breaking911.com\/breaking-tonight-ied-detonated-florida-shopping-mall-devices-found-manhunt-underway\/","title":{"rendered":"Police: Explosion at Florida mall was not homemade bomb"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>**UPDATE:\u00a0Objects police mistook for IEDs were actually marine flares; investigators trying to determine motive in incident but don&#8217;t suspect terrorism.**<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>FLORIDA &#8212; Officials says an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded at a Lake Wales, Florida shopping mall Sunday night.<\/p>\n<p>The bomb was detonated at the entrance of a JC Penny at the Eagle Ridge Mall.<\/p>\n<p>At 5:22pm the Lake Wales Fire Department responded to the mall, located at 451 Eagle Ridge Drive in Lake Wales, in reference to an alarm call. While enroute the call was changed to a structure fire. Once on scene the fire department located smoke coming from a corridor located next to the mall entrance of JC Penney.<\/p>\n<p>The fire department discovered an improvised explosive device had been detonated in corridor. They also located a backpack in the same corridor with other possible improvised explosive devices in it. There were no injuries as a result of the explosion but there was damage to a drop ceiling and possibly to the corridor wall.<\/p>\n<p>At 5:30pm the Lake Wales Police Department responded to begin a criminal investigation.<\/p>\n<p>The mall was been evacuated. On scene assisting with the investigation is the Polk County Sheriff\u2019s Office, the State Fire Marshall, and the Hillsborough Sheriff\u2019s Office Bomb Squad. The FBI was also responding.<\/p>\n<p>Based on information provided by witnesses they are looking for a person of interest who is described as a middle-aged white male, heavy\/stocky build, wearing a grey shirt and a grey hat.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">BREAKING: An IED was detonated at a Lake Wales, Florida Mall tonight, Mall has been evacuated.
