West Baltimore – Shennika Floyd and Edward Capers face a combined 68 years in prison for the murder of David Daye. Floyd was convicted of second-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon, and Caspers was convicted of first-degree assault and assault with a deadly weapon.<\/p>\n
On July 5, 2018, at 12:38 am, officers responded to a report of a stabbing in the 1900 block of West North Avenue. Upon arrival, they located the victim David Daye lying on the sidewalk suffering from a serious stab wound to the chest. An autopsy revealed that Daye died from the stab wound.<\/p>\n
Detectives learned through investigation that Floyd was playing cards at a party where the victim was also in attendance. After Floyd lost a card game, multiple arguments ensued, including a physical altercation between Floyd and the victim. After the brawl, Floyd left the party with other attendees.<\/p>\n
Approximately 20 minutes later, Floyd\u2019s associate, Edward Capers, arrived at the party and punched the victim. As the two men braced themselves in a fighting stance, the victim pulled out his pocket knife. Floyd, along with a group of individuals arrived moments later, and they along with Capers begin chasing and assaulting Mr. Daye.<\/p>\n
As Daye tried to flee the attack, Floyd stabbed the victim with a large dagger she brought with her to the party. The victim managed to get the dagger from Floyd but immediately fell to the ground. Edward Capers then picked up a metal chair and repeatedly beat the victim with it.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt truly saddens me that Mr. Daye viciously lost his life on a night intended to be a fun gathering with friends,\u201d said State\u2019s Attorney Marilyn Mosby. \u201cI can\u2019t imagine any reason why these defendants felt validated to attack this victim the way they did. These individuals will now pay the full price for their malicious behavior.\u201d<\/p>\n
Both defendants are scheduled to be sentenced on June 14, 2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
