BALTIMORE — \u2013 Dion Dixon, 20, was convicted of second-degree murder and possession of a deadly weapon with the intent to injure for the murder of Randolph Cockrell, a homeless man.<\/p>\n
Early in the morning on August 7, 2018, officers responded to the 3700 block of Oakmont Avenue for a report of an assault. Upon arrival, officers observed the victim, later identified as 68-year old Randolph Cockrell, lying in the alley with severe trauma to his head. Medics responded shortly thereafter and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.<\/p>\n
Large amounts of blood, as well as a piece of concrete, and a blue chair both covered in blood splatter were found at the scene.<\/p>\n
Witnesses told detectives that an individual known as \u201cPo\u201d was seen in the alley behind the house where the victim was killed between 3:30 am and 5:00 am. The witnesses advised of Po\u2019s real name, Dion, and shared his home address. When detectives visited the address witnesses provided, they confirmed Dixon\u2019s home address and nickname. Further investigation also revealed that the defendant was at his girlfriend\u2019s home.<\/p>\n
Witnesses saw Mr. Dixon on the front porch of his girlfriend\u2019s residence covered in blood, wearing tan pants, a black tank top, and tennis shoes. Dixon also told a witness he hit a man with a brick, and then showered and changed his clothes. After the killing, Dixon left the location and discarded the bloody clothes in front of a vacant home.<\/p>\n
Detectives apprehended Dixon at his girlfriend\u2019s home later in the afternoon. Tan bloody pants were also found while canvassing the area. Dixon waived his Miranda rights and confessed to killing the victim and then showering and discarding his bloody clothing.<\/p>\n
A motive for the crime remains unknown.<\/p>\n
