INDIANAPOLIS \u2013 On April 28, 2020 Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Homicide detectives, in conjunction with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and Federal Bureau of Investigations, have arrested 21-year-old Tony Cushingberry.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

On April 27, 2020, just before 4:00 p.m., IMPD officers were dispatched to 422 N Denny St. in response to a caller stating someone had been shot at that location. When officers arrived, they located an adult female, later identified as 45-year-old Angela Summers suffering from apparent gunshot wound(s). Officers called for the assistance of Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services (IEMS) who responded and transported the victim to an area hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.<\/p>\n

IndyStar reported<\/a>: Alondra Salazar, 19, was falling asleep in her home on North Denny Street when she heard a loud bang.<\/em><\/p>\n

“At first I thought something had fallen in the house,” Salazar said. “I heard someone knocking.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Salazar looked through the peephole and didn’t see anything. When she opened the door, she found the wounded Summers on the porch.<\/em><\/p>\n

There was blood and undelivered mail beside her body, along with a small bottle of hand sanitizer and a can of pepper spray, Salazar said. There was a bullet hole in the door.<\/em><\/p>\n

Salazar called 911 and held Summers’ hand, she said, trying to calm her as they waited for paramedics.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cShe couldn\u2019t speak, she was hyperventilating,\u201d Salazar said. \u201cI think she said something about her kid and that\u2019s when I started crying.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\n

Homicide detectives responded and immediately began canvassing the area for witnesses. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to assist in identifying and collecting potential forensic evidence.<\/p>\n

On April 28, 2020 IMPD Homicide detectives along with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigations arrested Tony Cushingberry for his alleged involvement in the death of Angela Summers. The U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office will review the case and make a charging decision.<\/p>\n
