She and her partner had married months earlier in New York, and within days of their nuptials she had become pregnant with donor sperm at a fertility clinic in Canton.<\/p>\n<p>Cramblett, 36, and her partner, Amanda Zinkon, 29, were so elated that they called Midwest Sperm Bank LLC outside Chicago to reserve sperm from the same donor in the hope that Zinkon would someday also have a child.<\/p>\n<p>But that\u2019s when Cramblett received some disturbing news, says a lawsuit filed Monday against Midwest Sperm Bank in Cook County, Illinois. She learned from an\u00a0<a id=\"itxthook1\" class=\"itxtnewhook itxthook\" style=\"color: #266ec4;\" href=\"http:\/\/cleveland.cbslocal.com\/2014\/10\/02\/2-white-lesbians-sue-after-becoming-pregnant-with-sperm-donated-by-black-man\/#\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span id=\"itxthook1p\" class=\"itxtrst itxtrstspan itxtnowrap\"><span id=\"itxthook1w\" class=\"itxtrst itxtrstspan itxtnowrap itxtnewhookspan\" style=\"color: #009900;\">employee<\/span><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"itxthook1icon\" class=\"itxtrst itxtrstimg itxthookicon\" src=\"http:\/\/images.intellitxt.com\/ast\/adTypes\/icon1.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/span><\/a>\u00a0at the sperm bank that she had been inseminated with sperm from No. 330, a black donor, and not No. 380, a white donor she and Zinkon, who are white, had chosen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow could they make a mistake that was so personal?\u201d Cramblett said during a telephone interview on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>According to the lawsuit, her\u00a0<a id=\"itxthook2\" class=\"itxtnewhook itxthook\" style=\"color: #266ec4;\" href=\"http:\/\/cleveland.cbslocal.com\/2014\/10\/02\/2-white-lesbians-sue-after-becoming-pregnant-with-sperm-donated-by-black-man\/#\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span id=\"itxthook2p\" class=\"itxtrst itxtrstspan itxtnowrap\"><span id=\"itxthook2w\" class=\"itxtrst itxtrstspan itxtnowrap itxtnewhookspan\" style=\"color: #009900;\">excitement<\/span><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"itxthook2icon\" class=\"itxtrst itxtrstimg itxthookicon\" src=\"http:\/\/images.intellitxt.com\/ast\/adTypes\/icon1.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/span><\/a>\u00a0about the pending birth was replaced with \u201canger, disappointment and fear.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey took a personal choice, a personal decision and took it on themselves to make that choice for us out of pure negligence,\u201d Cramblett said.<\/p>\n<p>Telephone calls to Midwest Sperm Bank were not returned on Wednesday. It\u2019s unclear who the sperm bank\u2019s attorney is.<\/p>\n<p>Cramblett said she and Zinkon love their 2-year-old daughter, Payton, very much and wouldn\u2019t change anything about her. But they are concerned about raising her in the predominantly white community where they live.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit said they had moved from Akron to Uniontown for better\u00a0<a id=\"itxthook3\" class=\"itxtnewhook itxthook\" style=\"color: #266ec4;\" href=\"http:\/\/cleveland.cbslocal.com\/2014\/10\/02\/2-white-lesbians-sue-after-becoming-pregnant-with-sperm-donated-by-black-man\/#\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span id=\"itxthook3p\" class=\"itxtrst itxtrstspan itxtnowrap\"><span id=\"itxthook3w\" class=\"itxtrst itxtrstspan itxtnowrap itxtnewhookspan\" style=\"color: #009900;\">schools<\/span><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"itxthook3icon\" class=\"itxtrst itxtrstimg itxthookicon\" src=\"http:\/\/images.intellitxt.com\/ast\/adTypes\/icon1.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/span><\/a>\u00a0and to be closer to Cramblett\u2019s family. She said that as a lesbian she has felt the sting of prejudice but doesn\u2019t know what it\u2019s like to be mistreated because of her skin color.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit says Cramblett also is worried about how Payton will be treated in her \u201call-white, and often unconsciously insensitive\u00a0<a id=\"itxthook4\" class=\"itxtnewhook itxthook\" style=\"color: #266ec4;\" href=\"http:\/\/cleveland.cbslocal.com\/2014\/10\/02\/2-white-lesbians-sue-after-becoming-pregnant-with-sperm-donated-by-black-man\/#\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span id=\"itxthook4p\" class=\"itxtrst itxtrstspan itxtnowrap\"><span id=\"itxthook4w\" class=\"itxtrst itxtrstspan itxtnowrap itxtnewhookspan\" style=\"color: #009900;\">family<\/span><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"itxthook4icon\" class=\"itxtrst itxtrstimg itxthookicon\" src=\"http:\/\/images.intellitxt.com\/ast\/adTypes\/icon1.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/span><\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Therapists have recommended that Cramblett, Zinkon and Payton move to a more a racially diverse community with good schools, the lawsuit said.<\/p>\n<p>Cramblett said she decided to sue to prevent the sperm bank from making the same mistake again. The lawsuit says the sperm bank has no electronic record-keeping and no\u00a0<a id=\"itxthook5\" class=\"itxtnewhook itxthook\" style=\"color: #266ec4;\" href=\"http:\/\/cleveland.cbslocal.com\/2014\/10\/02\/2-white-lesbians-sue-after-becoming-pregnant-with-sperm-donated-by-black-man\/#\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span id=\"itxthook5p\" class=\"itxtrst itxtrstspan itxtnowrap\"><span id=\"itxthook5w\" class=\"itxtrst itxtrstspan itxtnowrap itxtnewhookspan\" style=\"color: #009900;\">quality<\/span><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"itxthook5icon\" class=\"itxtrst itxtrstimg itxthookicon\" src=\"http:\/\/images.intellitxt.com\/ast\/adTypes\/icon1.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/span><\/a>\u00a0controls that would have prevented it from sending the wrong sperm to fertility clinics.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit seeks a minimum of $50,000 in damages.
