{"id":156035,"date":"2021-04-06T21:24:55","date_gmt":"2021-04-07T01:24:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/breaking911.com\/?p=156035"},"modified":"2021-04-06T21:24:55","modified_gmt":"2021-04-07T01:24:55","slug":"bodycam-man-shot-dead-after-rushing-lapd-officers-with-hammer-bike-stand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/breaking911.com\/bodycam-man-shot-dead-after-rushing-lapd-officers-with-hammer-bike-stand\/","title":{"rendered":"BODYCAM: Man shot dead after rushing LAPD officers with hammer, bike stand"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CALIFORNIA &#8211;<em> (Scroll Down For Video \/ New Release via LAPD)<\/em> &#8211; Los Angeles Police Department&#8217;s (LAPD) Force Investigation Division is investigating an Off-Duty Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) that occurred in Rampart Division.<\/p>\n<p>On March 19, 2021 around 3:40\u200b p.m., a Rampart Area sergeant was flagged down by a community member due to a suspect being armed with a hammer and what was believed to be a hatchet.<\/p>\n<p>Additional officers met with the sergeant, formulated a plan, and attempted to detain the suspect. Officers used less lethal devices, but they were not effective. The suspect threw a hammer and then a metal object resembling a pick axe at the officers, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting. The suspect was struck by gunfire. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. During the investigation a hammer and rear-mounted bicycle kick stand were recovered at scene.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Rampart Area OIS 3\/19\/2021 (NRF016-21)\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8-XAupNyswE?start=217&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>LAPD&#8217;s specialized Force Investigation Division responded to the scene and interviewed witnesses and supervised the collection of evidence by the Forensic Science Division. A representative from the Office of the Inspector General responded to the scene and monitored the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>The complete investigation will be reviewed by the Chief of Police, the Board of Police Commissioners, and the Office of the Inspector General to determine the thoroughness and accuracy of the investigation and whether the use of deadly force complied with LAPD&#8217;s policies and procedures.
