Monticello, GA \u2013 A homicide investigation in Monticello Sunday led deputies into a standoff in Putnam County.<\/p>\n

Around 9:00 p.m., The Jasper County Sheriff\u2019s Office said Kira Ammons, age 41, of Monticello, GA, was found shot multiple times and later died.<\/p>\n

Witnesses at the scene told law enforcement that James David Mathis, 38, of Eatonton, Putnam County, GA, was responsible for Ammons\u2019 death. Ammons was Mathis’ ex-girlfriend.<\/p>\n

Putnam County deputies responded to Mathis\u2019 home in order to attempt to locate him. Upon arrival, deputies heard gunshots and a Putnam County deputy\u2019s patrol vehicle was shot by Mathis.<\/p>\n

Shortly thereafter, Mathis was located outside of his home with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.<\/p>\n

No deputies were injured during the incident.<\/p>\n
