Pensacola, FL – Around 6:45 Friday morning, Escambia County Sheriff\u2019s Office Deputies were called to the Pines at Warrington apartment complex due to a shooting. Once on scene, deputies found a two-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound. The toddler was rushed to a local hospital where he pronounced deceased.<\/p>\n

He was identified as Sebastian Carlton Mooney.<\/p>\n

Quentin White, the boyfriend of the mother to the young victim, was ‘showing his gun to the mother’ when it went off, officials said. White fled the scene.<\/p>\n

Deputies tracked him down and with the assistance of the Pensacola Police Department he was arrested and charged with manslaughter, possession or use of a firearm during a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is senseless, tragic, and heartbreaking,” said Sheriff Chip W. Simmons. “Carelessness on this level is criminal. The family of this innocent child will live with this forever. We as a community, mourn the loss of this child and condemn the carelessness responsible for this catastrophic event.\u201d<\/p>\n

“The victim’s mother asked him to put the gun away because she was not comfortable with that weapon, and while he was putting that gun away, according to the reports, a single shot went off and it struck the 2-year-old,” Simmons added.<\/p>\n

“The community mourns this loss of a 2-year-old who never had the opportunity to grow up, never had the opportunity to ride a bike, to go to school, to go on a date, to prove that they could be a productive part in our community and all because of the carelessness of an individual who wasn’t even supposed to have a gun.”<\/p>\n
