POMPANO BEACH, FLA. – Broward Sheriff\u2019s Office homicide detectives arrested a 17-year-old teenager Friday night for his girlfriend\u2019s murder.<\/p>\n

Detectives arrested Ja \u2018Kolbi Jacsaint Feb. 18 at the Public Safety Building, located at 2601 W. Broward Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. Jacsaint is facing one count each of premeditated murder, committing a first degree felony with a firearm, and child neglect for placing an infant in danger when the victim\u2019s vehicle went into a canal. Jacsaint is being held at the Broward Juvenile Detention Center.<\/p>\n

The tragic incident occurred Wednesday, Feb. 16, in Pompano Beach. Shortly after 2:30 a.m., Broward County Regional Communications received a 911 call about a car that went into the canal near Northwest Eighth Street and Northwest Tenth Avenue in Pompano Beach. Broward Sheriff\u2019s Office deputies arrived on scene and located the partially submerged white Chevrolet Camaro. Deputies said a good Samaritan rescued the 5-month-old little girl from the car and was in the process of removing the female driver from the car when they arrived. A Pompano Beach District deputy brought the woman to shore and administered CPR until paramedics arrived. The baby girl was unharmed.<\/p>\n

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue transported the woman and baby to Broward Health North hospital. The woman, who had been shot, was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The baby girl, who relatives said is the victim\u2019s godchild, was reunited with her mother.<\/p>\n

BSO Homicide Unit and Crime Scene detectives responded to the scene to investigate the circumstances that led up to this incident. BSO Dive Team members responded as well to help search for evidence.<\/p>\n

Homicide detectives, determined to identify the woman\u2019s killer, conducted interviews, obtained search warrants for the victim\u2019s and Jacsaint\u2019s cellular phones, reviewed street surveillance video and surveillance video from the apartment complex where Jacsaint lives, and attained a search warrant for Jacsaint\u2019s home.<\/p>\n

Investigators said based on the information gathered and evidence collected in this case, they believe Jacsaint is responsible for his girlfriend\u2019s death, and during his initial sworn statement, he lied about where he was when the fatal shooting occurred.<\/p>\n
