NASHVILLE, Tenn. \u2013 Recording artist and former police officer Jeff Carson has died at the age of 58.<\/p>\n

Carson died of a heart attack at Williamson Medical Center in Franklin, Tennessee.<\/p>\n

Jeffrey Lee Herndon, known musically by Jeff Carson, was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on December 16, 1963, and began his musical career early on singing in church. After forming a band in Rogers, Arkansas, Carson eventually moved to Branson, Missouri where he wrote songs and played around locally before moving to Nashville where he began recording demos, including Tracy Byrd (\u201cWalkin\u2019 To Jerusalem\u201d), Tracy Lawrence (\u201cI See it Now\u201d), Reba McEntire (\u201cThe Heart Is A Lonely Hunter\u201d), Tim McGraw (\u201cI Wouldn\u2019t Want It Any Other Way\u201d), Faith Hill (\u201cIt Matters To Me\u201d), Mark Wills (\u201cPlaces I\u2019ve Never Been\u201d), Diamond Rio (\u201cMirror Mirror\u201d) among others. In 1995, Chuck Howard was instrumental in getting Carson his recording contract at Curb Records, and soon a single, \u201cYeah Buddy,\u201d was released to radio. This was his first charting single and was followed up with \u2018Not On Your Love,\u2019 which went number one. The following single, \u2018The Car,\u2019 became a top-five hit, topping out at number two and won Carson his first Academy of Country Music award for \u201cVideo of the Year.\u201d Carson had several other singles, including \u201cReal Life (Was Never The Same Again)\u201d from his album \u201cReal Life.\u201d In total, Carson\u2019s career achieved 14 charted singles on the Billboard chart.<\/p>\n
