Responding Deputies found Kramer with a non-life threatening gunshot wound.<\/p>\n<p>Kramer&#8217;s former wife spoke to NBC News: <em>&#8230;Marshawn Kramer, told NBC News Wednesday night that it was a suicide attempt, and said Kramer suffered years of depression that she believes was the result of his time in the NFL.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;He is a very amazing man, a beautiful soul, but he has suffered depression since he was with the Bears,&#8221; Marshawn Kramer said in a telephone interview. &#8220;I can promise you he is not the same man I married.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/breaking911.com\/breaking-video-massive-fight-breaks-out-at-nfl-practice-watch\/\">WATCH THIS: MASSIVE FIGHT BREAKS OUT AT NFL PRACTICE<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/c0P1dfBlpwo\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Kramer was not drafted by an <a title=\"National Football League\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/National_Football_League\">NFL<\/a> team, but did see action in 1987, when he played for the <a title=\"Atlanta Falcons\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Atlanta_Falcons\">Atlanta Falcons<\/a> as a <a title=\"Replacement player\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Replacement_player\">replacement player<\/a> during the NFL players strike. He would then spend some time in the <a title=\"Canadian Football League\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Canadian_Football_League\">CFL<\/a> with the <a title=\"Calgary Stampeders\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Calgary_Stampeders\">Calgary Stampeders<\/a>. Kramer would return to the NFL in 1991, when he became a surprise starter for the <a title=\"Detroit Lions\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Detroit_Lions\">Detroit Lions<\/a> after injuries sidelined <a title=\"Rodney Peete\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rodney_Peete\">Rodney Peete<\/a>. Kramer played in 13 games, led the Lions to a 12-4 record, their first playoff victory since the 1950s, and a trip to the <a title=\"NFC Championship Game\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/NFC_Championship_Game\">NFC Championship Game<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Kramer&#8217;s nickname in Detroit was &#8220;Brass&#8221;, a media-friendly redaction of &#8220;<a class=\"new\" title=\"Brass Balls (page does not exist)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Brass_Balls&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\">Brass Balls<\/a>&#8220;. The moniker apparently originated after Kramer called an <a title=\"Quarterback\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Quarterback#Special_tactics\">audible<\/a> on his first series as Lions&#8217; quarterback, having just replaced the injured <a title=\"Rodney Peete\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rodney_Peete\">Rodney Peete<\/a>. One Lions&#8217; offensive lineman turned to another and said, &#8220;This guy&#8217;s got brass balls.&#8221; Kramer proved to be quite successful as a signal-caller in 1991 and the nickname stuck. His other nickname was &#8220;Cosmo&#8221;, which was due to him having the same last name as the character <a title=\"Cosmo Kramer\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cosmo_Kramer\">Cosmo Kramer<\/a> from the popular TV show, <a title=\"Seinfeld\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Seinfeld\">Seinfeld<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Kramer was not able to keep his starting job for the next three years, however, sharing duties with Peete and <a title=\"Andre Ware\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Andre_Ware\">Andre Ware<\/a>. In 1994, he signed as a free agent with the <a title=\"Chicago Bears\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chicago_Bears\">Chicago Bears<\/a>, and spent the next five years with the club. In his two full seasons as a starter (1995 and 1997), he was highly productive and passed for over 3,000 yards. Kramer currently holds the Bears&#8217; single-season record for passing yards (3,838) and touchdown passes (29).\u00a0Kramer signed with the <a title=\"San Diego Chargers\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/San_Diego_Chargers\">San Diego Chargers<\/a> in the 1999 offseason, but retired midseason due to a neck injury. (Though he also missed much of the 1996 season with a neck injury, the two injuries were unrelated.)<\/p>\n<p>Kramer finished his 13 NFL seasons with 1,317 completions for 15,337 yards and 92 touchdowns, with 79 interceptions.
