CALIFORNIA — A U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officer shot and killed a man crossing into the U.S. from Mexico Wednesday, officials said.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, Oct. 21, at about 12 a.m. local time, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection<\/a> officer on duty at one of the vehicle primary lanes at the Calexico West Port of Entry in California was approached by an individual on a bike.<\/p>\n The individual got off the bike with a knife in his hand and came toward the officer.<\/p>\n The officer discharged his service issued weapon, striking the individual.<\/p>\n Officers immediately administered first aid until emergency medical services (EMS) arrived. EMS transported the individual to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n The officer involved was not injured.<\/p>\n The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General, the Calexico Police Department and CBP <\/a>are investigating the incident.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
