Samour, who presided over Holmes&#8217; monthslong trial. In August, he sentenced Holmes to 12 consecutive life terms without parole plus 3,318 years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Holmes murdered 12 people and tried to kill 70 more during a midnight showing of the Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises in the Denver suburb of Aurora in the summer of 2012.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Prosecutors had sought restitution to pay for victims&#8217; medications, mental health care and other needs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\"><a href=\"https:\/\/breaking911.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/James_holmes_2015mugshot_1449257992952_27891019_ver1.0_640_480.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-59422\" src=\"https:\/\/breaking911.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/James_holmes_2015mugshot_1449257992952_27891019_ver1.0_640_480.jpg\" alt=\"James_holmes_2015mugshot_1449257992952_27891019_ver1.0_640_480\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/breaking911.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/James_holmes_2015mugshot_1449257992952_27891019_ver1.0_640_480.jpg 640w, https:\/\/breaking911.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/James_holmes_2015mugshot_1449257992952_27891019_ver1.0_640_480-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/breaking911.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/James_holmes_2015mugshot_1449257992952_27891019_ver1.0_640_480-80x60.jpg 80w, https:\/\/breaking911.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/James_holmes_2015mugshot_1449257992952_27891019_ver1.0_640_480-265x198.jpg 265w, https:\/\/breaking911.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/James_holmes_2015mugshot_1449257992952_27891019_ver1.0_640_480-560x420.jpg 560w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">It&#8217;s not known\u00a0what kind of job Holmes will have in prison, but DOC inmates are paid 23 cents to $2 per day for performing various tasks, according to a 2012 memo from the Colorado Legislative Council Staff. They are only allowed to work 23 days a month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">They said the money would pay for victims&#8217; psychiatric care, medical equipment, lost wages and other needs as a result of the mass shooting.
