Germany is now considering a limit of\u00a0$5450 on cash transactions in an attempt to stop the financing of terrorism.<\/p>\n
The Germany governs wants to impose a limit of\u00a0$5450 on cash payments in order to track the financing of international terrorism.<\/p>\n
Local media reported that the threat of international terrorism is behind the move, and restrictions on cash have been discussed behind closed doors for some times.<\/p>\n
Pre-paid cards and large amounts of cash withdrawn are one of the many reasons behind the move.<\/p>\n
A ministry source told FAZ:\u00a0“The world after\u00a0the Paris terror attacks is no longer the same as\u00a0before.’<\/p>\n
Germany’s ruling coalition has supported the move and has already called for the imposition of a 5,000 euro limit.<\/p>\n
“In our opinion there is no plausible or legal reason to\u00a0conduct a cash transaction above\u00a0this limit,” the SDP stated in\u00a0a parliamentary paper last month. In addition, the party wants to\u00a0ban the 500 euro banknote to\u00a0stop it being used by\u00a0organized crime.<\/p>\n
“Germany is a popular destination for\u00a0organized crime and the Mafia,” the SDP wrote.<\/p>\n
