NEWTOWN, CT — At approximately 09:00 a.m. the Newtown Police Department was contacted by school personnel from the Newtown Middle School located at 11 Middle Street, Newtown, Connecticut, advising them that school security personnel were detaining a teacher from the school who was observed inside the school carrying a firearm.<\/p>\n
Upon arrival police personnel interviewed witnesses and made a determination that the teacher, identified as Jason M. Adams, of 90 Currituck Rd. Newtown, Connecticut, 10\/11\/1969, had entered the school carrying a concealed firearm. Adams possesess a valid State of Connecticut Pistol Permit.<\/p>\n
The police department, working closely with the administration of the Newtown Public School system, commenced an immediate investigation and a determination was made that Mr. Adams was in violation of State Statute 53a\u00ad217(b) and school policy that strictly forbids the possession of a firearm on school property.<\/p>\n
After a brief detention Mr. Adam\u2019s was charged with Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds, 53a\u00ad217(b) and transported to the Newtown Police Department for processing\u037e he was released on his own recognizance, with a court appearance date at GA#3 Danbury of 4\/20\/2016.<\/p>\n
