Hillary Rodham Clinton admitted she hasn\u2019t driven a car since her husband\u2019s first term.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe last time I actually drove a car myself was 1996,\u201d Clinton said Monday in remarks to the National Automobile Dealers Association in New Orleans. \u201cI remember it very well. Unfortunately, so does the Secret Service, which is why I haven\u2019t driven since then.\u201d<\/p>\n
America Rising, a Republican super PAC, criticized Clinton\u2019s comments as showing she is out of touch. The organization posted video on Tumblr and commented: \u201cMaybe she put in a tape of The Macarena (which was on top of the charts) during her last time behind the wheel?\u201d<\/p>\n
The Secret Service protected Clinton \u2014 and drove her from point to point \u2014 as first lady during her husband\u2019s eight years in the White House. She continued to receive Secret Service protection after Bill Clinton left office in 2001 and while she served in the U.S. Senate, because of her status as a former first lady. But when Clinton became secretary of State in 2009, the Diplomatic Security Service protected Clinton while she was the nation\u2019s top diplomat.<\/p>\n
During her 2008 campaign for president, Clinton admitted she hadn\u2019t pumped gas in quite some time. She still had a driver\u2019s license at that time, and Clinton \u201csometimes used a hybrid SUV back home in New York,\u201d according to a New York Times story.<\/p>\n
